Compare Funds Help
The Compare Funds feature allows you to analyze and compare the investment activity of any two funds side-by-side across years and sectors. This helps you understand overlaps, differences, and sectoral focus between two funds.
What is the Compare Funds feature?
This feature allows you to compare the portfolio composition of any two funds across sectors and investment years. It visualizes which companies are:
- Portfolio companies of Fund A - companies Fund A has invested in (blue badges)
- Portfolio companies of Fund B - companies Fund B has invested in (green badges)
- Portfolio companies common to both funds - companies both funds have invested in (highlighted in purple with a ★ for when both funds invested into the portfolio company in the same year, or with # for when invested in different years)
Example: A company showing as a purple badge with ★ in the "Fintech" sector for year "2023" means both funds invested in that company during 2023.
The data is presented in a matrix format with sectors on the vertical axis and years on the horizontal axis, making it easy to spot patterns and differences.
How do I use the Compare Funds feature?
- Select Fund A from the first dropdown.
- Select Fund B from the second dropdown.
- The comparison matrix will automatically load, showing all active Indian portfolio companies (2016+) for both funds.
- Use the Swap button (↔) to exchange the two funds.
- Use the Sector and Year filters to narrow down the view.
- Click Download PDF to export the comparison as a printable report.
What do the summary statistics show?
Above the matrix, you'll see summary statistics that provide a quick overview:
- Total Portfolio Companies: The number of unique companies in each fund's portfolio.
- Common Portfolio Companies: The total number of companies both funds have invested in (same year + different years combined).
- ★ Invested in same year: Companies both funds invested in during the same calendar year.
- # Invested in different years: Companies both funds invested in but in different years.
What filters are available for the comparison matrix and how do they work?
You can filter the matrix by Sector and/orYear using the multi-select dropdowns:
- Sector filter: Select one or more sectors to see only companies in those sectors. The dropdown shows all sectors present in the data.
- Year filter: Select one or more years to see only investments made in those years. Years are shown in ascending order.
- Use "Select All" or "Clear All"options in each dropdown for quick selection changes.
- Active filters are shown as tags below the filter bar - click the × on any tag to remove it.
- Click "Clear All Filters" to reset both filters at once.
Note: The summary statistics and matrix automatically update when filters are applied.
How do I download the comparison report?
Click the Download PDF button in the top-right corner of the matrix section. This will open a print-friendly version of the comparison in a new window.
The PDF includes:
- Fund details (name, type, geography, ticket sizes)
- Summary statistics (total companies, common companies, same-year common, different-year common)
- Full comparison matrix with all companies and color-coded badges
- Your email as a watermark for reference
Use your browser's "Save as PDF" option in the print dialog to save the file.
What are the limitations of this feature?
- Only active Indian portfolio companies with an investment year of 2016 or later are included.
- Follow-on investments (additional rounds in the same company) are not counted as new investments and do not appear in the matrix.
- Exited or defunct companies are excluded from the comparison.
- Given the dependence on fund websites and news for sourcing portfolio data, any limitations or inaccuracies in the source might flow through to the comparison.
- The data is as up-to-date as our latest data refresh. For the most current data, please refer to the individual fund portfolio pages.
